Yeast spheroplasts formed by cell wall-degrading enzymes from Oerskovia sp.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Oerskovia sp. produces inducible extracellular enzymes which degrade the walls of various yeasts. Yeast spheroplasts are formed from both log- and stationary-phase cells.

Production and ecological significance of yeast cell wall-degrading enzymes from oerskovia.
Motile actinomycetes capable of degrading walls of viable yeast cells were isolated from soil and identified as Oerskovia xanthineolytica. A lytic assay based on susceptibility of enzyme-treated cells to osmotic shock was developed, and 10 of 15 strains of O. xanthineolytica, Oerskovia turbata, and nonmotile Oerskovia- like organisms from other collections were found to possess yeast lytic acti...
متن کاملThe Synergistic Effects among ƒÀ - 1 , 3 - Glucanases from Oerskovia sp . CK on Lysis of Viable Yeast Cells
Oerskovia sp. CK produced three types of ƒÀ-1,3-glucanases designated as F-L, F-0 and F-2. F-L showed high lytic activity to viable yeast cells and weak activity to yeast glucan. F-0 and F-2 had little or no lytic activity and strong ƒÀ-1,3-glucanase activity. F-0 or F-2 showed high lytic activities to yeast cells pretreated with small amounts of F-L which did not lysed the cells. Lytic activit...
متن کاملSpheroplastic phase of mycobacteria isolated from patients with Crohn's disease.
Two strains of an unclassified Mycobacterium species were isolated after 18 and 30 months of incubation of media inoculated with resected intestinal tissues from patients with Crohn's disease. These strains represented the third and fourth isolates of this organism from Crohn's disease patients. Ultrastructural examination of this strain and two previously isolated strains revealed the presence...
متن کاملThe Protective Effect of Cell Wall and Cytoplasmic Fraction of Selenium Enriched Yeast on 1, 2-Dimethylhydrazine-induced Damage in Liver
Background: 1, 2-Dimethylhydrazine (DMH) enhances lipid peroxidation rate by tumor mitochondria than normal tissue counterpart and causes many disorders in antioxidant system in liver. It also increases the level of enzymes that metabolize toxin in liver and colon. The aim of this study was to evaluate the alteration of liver and its enzymes after DMH injection and evaluate protective effect of...
متن کاملInvolvement of [beta]-glucans in the wide-spectrum antimicrobial activity of Williopsis saturnus var. mrakii MUCL 41968 killer toxin.
BACKGROUND Williopsis saturnus var. mrakii MUCL 41968 secretes a 85-kDa glycoprotein killer toxin (WmKT) that displays a cytocidal activity against a wide range of microorganisms, making WmKT a promising candidate for the development of new antimicrobial molecules. Although the killing mechanism of WmKT is still unknown, the toxin was recently proposed to bind to the surface of sensitive microo...
